Intensive Training Academy for Professionals

September 21 and 22, 2023 9:00-17:00 CET (virtual)
Free of charge.

What is it?

The annual ChangeMaker academy is a two-day intensive training and networking program for professionals in the fields of participation and engagement with research. The academy will be knit together through two overarching themes: building strategies and understanding motivations. The assorted training modules will cover the pillars of effective engagement with research: Institutions, community, researchers, leadership and creative communication.

When is it?

The virtual academy will take place on a Thursday and Friday, September 21 and 22, 9:00-17:00.

Who is it for?

The academy is specifically designed for professionals of Public Engagement and wider fields of participation and engagement. Thus it is most helpful for institutionally positioned engagers that seek to raise the profile of Public Engagement and participatory research practices and principles in their institution. The academy is open to German and international attendants, and will be held in English.

What is the vision?

The ChangeMaker Academy brings together an international community of engaged professionals keen to strategically position Public Engagement and societal participation within their institution, and develop their personal leadership. The programme combines practice insights from participants with expert-led workshops, to transform current strategies into bespoke visionary strategies. The academy is designed to create opportunities to network with peers and connect in order to collaborate and build a community of practice across geographic and disciplinary borders. It will leave each professional with hands-on knowledge on how to communicate the value of Public Engagement and participation, and utilise available levers within their institutional environments. This is supported by an individual peer-reviewed strategy that outlines their next steps in elevating Public Engagement and participation within their field.

What are the costs?

The academy places are fully funded by the host institution, the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, and are therefore of no cost to participants. However, participant spaces are limited, and so we ask for a commitment to fully participate in the two-day programme.

Thank you for your interest in applying to the ChangeMaker Academy. Our academy is a rigorous virtual program designed for professionals working within institutions who want to embed Public Engagement and societal participation with research.

Please note that there are limited spots available, and we will be selecting participants based on specific criteria. We are particularly interested in individuals who have previous experience in implementing Public Engagement or participatory initiatives, have started developing a strategy within their institutions, and are looking to enhance their communication and leadership skills to advance their engagement work. Preference will be given to applicants currently employed by institutions.

We prioritize equity, diversity, and inclusion, and we encourage applications from individuals from culturally and ethnically diverse backgrounds, as well as applicants with additional needs (please let us know about your specific needs in the correlated section of the application, so that we can accomodate these where possible). International applications are very welcome, please be aware that you will need to manage any timezone differences on your own.
